Carey is a former fashion model. She stands almost 5'10" tall and was well-liked by famous American designers, such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others. Her father was a prominent geoscientist and was awarded the title of Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey has traveled throughout the world because of his work. Modeling began part time while she was attending the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent from the Ford model Agency in New York. The model lived in France briefly, in Paris and Bordeaux. She then returned home to New York for her college study and further to build her modeling career. She studied full-time in New York University, obtaining her degree in literature in between assignments as a model. Gradually she became interested in acting and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she made her debut on stage with a small character on the show "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. White water rafting, skis and rock climbing are among her preferred pursuits.
